Prvi radioamaterski satelit po imenu OSCAR-1 (kratica od Orbiting Satellite Carryng Amateur Radio) lansiran je prije skoro 50 godina, točnije 12.12.1961. godine, 4 godine nakon prvog lansiranog satelita u svemir SPUTNIK I.

OSCAR znači Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio, a nastalo je još 1961, kada je, 12. prosinca lansiran OSCAR 1, tek nekoliko godina nakon što su Rusi lansirali prvi Sputnik.
